CLINICAL STUDY REPORTS HEMP-DERIVED CBD IS SAFE FOR HUMANS- NO LIVER TOXICITY

We are old enough to remember the mainstream media pushing negative press in regards to natural, non-intoxicating, hemp-derived CBD products as our industry was just beginning to emerge at the national level, specifically in regards to liver toxicity, back in 2018. In fact, we shared articles, research, and other info (2018-2020) that contradicted these baseless claims from those wanting to stall the progress of our industry, stoking fear amongst the consumer base. Those claims have now been formally debunked. Here's the summary ⬇️

(DENVER, Colo.) — March 23, 2021 — After seven months of clinical investigation, Validcare announced that its team of principal investigators met with members of the US Food and Drug Administration’s Cannabis Product Council to share initial findings from the industry sponsored, decentralized human safety study of hemp derived CBD products. This study was commissioned and designed in response to the FDA’s requests, so FDA can confidently determine the appropriate regulatory path(s) for hemp derived CBD products. Preliminary findings show NO EVIDENCE of liver disease in the 839 participants and no increase in the prevalence of elevated liver function tests when compared to a population with a similar incidence of medical conditions.

What we observed to date is no clinical evidence of liver disease in any participants. The study’s investigators were surprised to find almost 70% of study participants reported having a medical condition and taking medications for those conditions, without an increase in reporting of adverse events. This unexpected, positive finding makes the data even more compelling and provides significant data to consider secondary safety measurements in the general population,” said Keith Aqua, MD, co-principal investigator of this IRB-approved study.
